Wish I would have stayed here my first time in Manly! As I arrived around 12, the receptionist organized to arrange a room. The location is perfect just close to the Manly beach. Not noisy place is comfortable for sleeping. This place has clearly been around for decades, some areas look a bit tired and the walls etc could have been cleaner HOWEVER, it had this old charm feel that is really lovely.
The bed was a bit too firm for us but that's a personal thing. The area is quite noisy with the apartments next door and the cafe opening at 5.
The cafe has the best Coffee in Manly and the sourdough toast was delish. The location is fantastic, half way between the Wharf and Beach. The Greek restaurant at the bottom of the street beach end had really lovely food too.
There are not many motels on Sydney's northern beaches. Manly has a number of hotels but they are much more expensive. You get a microwave, fridge, electric jug to boil water, iron and hair dryer.
You even get bath accessories e. The TV works. I did have problems with the heating because the controls are not obvious and although I pressed Heat On it only lasted 5 minutes then ran on fan only. The first morning I was there was the coldest we had for 5 years so I used the blanket from the closet doubled over and was still cold. Eventually I worked out that if you press Heat On then when it cuts out there is a number you can increase by 1 and the heater stays on.
What happens if you start from 9 I don't know. My guess is you set this unexplained number to 0 before you turn on the heater. They have rooms so there is a BIG secure parking lot. It isn't patrolled but there is a boom gate going in. Tucked out of wind in corner of beautiful manly beach with good size balcony in morning sun. Lovely walks right on doorstep and good food wine and fun!
Main Motel is decidedly 2 star , with these additional rooms converted adjoining houses , to semi-guest house accomodation. Whilst these rooms are arguably Room had verandah at front which would be nice for longer stay , Manly beach metres away. Perfect for our purpose. Price could be revised due
